Housing Families

Temporary Accommodation for Families

Who is the Service For?

This service is for families with dependants with very low or no support needs who are experiencing homelessness, inadequately housed (including Bed and Breakfast) or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

Service Aims

Ultimately, this service aims to provide families with a period of stability and help to sustain a tenancy until they can secure a move to suitable long term housing.

Levels of Support

This is not classed as supported housing as we do not currently have funding to provide a dedicated support worker. However, our Housing Services team can provide additional support in the form of intensive housing management.

Intensive housing management includes help with; minor repairs that might normally be your own responsibility, managing your rent account, benefits liaison, enhanced housing officer contact, crisis support, claiming benefits and identifying additional sources of support that you may need.

Length of stay and moving-on

Length of stay varies depending on the availability of suitable move-on accommodation, how you are managing your tenancy and your banding status on the housing register. Typically families move on after about two years but it can be more or less than this depending on individual circumstances.

Accessing the Service

If you are homeless and have dependants you should consider contacting the local council’s homeless prevention team as they probably have a legal duty to house you.

Currently our Temporary Accommodation for Families is accessed via a direct referral from the Bristol Homeless Prevention Team. When a family vacancy becomes available we notify the Homeless Prevention Team who then refer eligible applicants to us.

Once a referral has been received, we perform an allocations assessment to check that the property and our services are compatible with the applicant’s needs.

You can contact Bristol City Council's Homelessness Prevention Team for a housing assessment on 0117 352 6800

For more information about this service and how to access it please refer to our TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION FOR FAMILIES service leaflet.

Direct Applications
